It was February 9, 2014, and Michigan State softball was in its first weekend of the season at Stetson, and the team was taking on Rhode Island. It was Sarah Gutknecht’s freshman year. It was her second at- bat in a Spartan uniform. She walked up to the plate, dug her cleats into the dirt, and got in her stance. She was ready. She’d never been more ready. She saw the pitch. She liked the pitch. She took a swing. Boom. It’s going, going… Gone! Home run!.
