The Michigan State baseball team will take a break from Big Ten play to face Central Michigan Tuesday in the "Clash at Comerica" in Detroit at 7 p.m. The Spartans defeated the Chippewas at Comerica Park last season, 3-1, in the first-ever collegiate game played at the home of the Detroit Tigers. This year's game will be televised on BTN.

Michigan State senior right-hander Tony Bucciferro has been named the Big Ten Co-Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. Bucciferro threw a five-hit, complete game shutout and struck out nine batters, one shy of his career high, to lead Michigan State past Iowa, 6-0, on Friday, May 11 at McLane Baseball Stadium.

The Michigan State Track & Field program wrapped up the final day of the Big Ten Outdoor Championships yesterday with five women making trips to the podium. The women finished the weekend amassing a total of 72 points for sixth-place in the conference standings, while the men tallied 19 points for tenth.

Michigan State will take its talents to South Beach and play at Miami on Nov. 28 as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge televised on ESPN's family of networks. A forgettable season for the MSU softball team ended Saturday with more blunder than bang as the Spartans dropped their 19th consecutive game in a weekend-series sweep by Indiana. MSU ended its 2012 campaign losing 26 of its last 27 contests and finished the season winless in Big Ten competition. The team finished 11-42 on the season with its last victory coming on a 6-1 decision at Central Michigan on April 4.

Gary Harris may be the higher-rated player coming to Michigan State, but Denzel Valentine might end up being more exciting to watch. Valentine, formerly of Lansing Sexton, is a four-star shooting guard who has been compared to legendary Spartans phenom Magic Johnson. Valentine was arguably the best prep player in Michigan in 2012, but he didn't win the title of Mr. Basketball.

MSU, the four-time defending varsity eight champion, saw Michigan break its four-year stranglehold on the varsity eight gold medal. The Wolverines claimed the overall team title, in addition to gold medals in both the varsity eight and second varsity eight. Each of the Wolverine boats medaled on the day.
