Football —  Rarely have there been better times to be a Michigan State football fan than right now. The Spartans finished 12-1, won a Big Ten championship and captured their first Rose Bowl berth and victory since 1988. Mark Dantonio's team ended up at No. 3 in the major polls and established itself as a national power. Gone are the "Same Old Spartans" jabs. By giving a big raise to Dantonio and (it appears) keeping star defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi on board, Michigan State has set itself up for continued success, as well. Right now, it's easy being green.

Football —  No one needed to remind Mark Dantonio of the pain of 2012, when Michigan State finished 7-6 and lost five games by a combined 13 points coming off consecutive 11-win seasons. The Spartans embarked on a redemption tour of sorts in 2013, marching through an 8-0 Big Ten season that saw them win every game by double-figures.

Men's Basketball —  The 2012-13 season was an interesting one for Spartan fans, as not many can be disappointed with the amount of wins, as MSU compiled 27 victories. Michigan State also seemed to beat every team that they should have, only losing one game to a team that did not make the NCAA Tournament. That loss came in the season opener against UConn, a team banned from the post-season.

Men's Basketball —  Although no new banners were hung in Breslin this year, and the galling loss to Duke in the tournament is still smarting, this was nonetheless a successful season for Michigan State basketball. Discuss »
Men's Basketball —  It began with Hans Gunther and it ended with 2 Chainz, both providing doses of entertainment to bookend another action-packed Michigan State men's basketball season. Gunther is the kindly German tow truck driver who gave a jump start to a rented van in Kaiserslautern, Germany, in November after a certain reporter (cough, cough) left the lights on overnight -- then played along as the writer stuck an iPhone in his face for some video. And 2 Chainz is apparently a popular rapper with the kids these days, who apparently ran into MSU coach Tom Izzo in Atlanta in advance of the Final Four festivities. The resulting snapshot caused quite a stir on Twitter. Discuss »

Football —  Maxwell is the all American young man. He is from Michigan. He is smart and excels in the classroom. He is a young man of deep faith and moral conviction. He was heralded as one of the best QBs in the nation coming out of high school. He pledged to the Green and White early and never looked back. This was his year. This was his time. Discuss »
Football —  As we methodically look back at the 2012 season, we have the luxury of 20/20 vision. That is one of the only luxuries that looking back gives us. So much promise ended with a lot of disappointment. If there was a silver lining it could be that Mark Dantonio has redefined what a disappointing season is. Now a bad year is a 7-6 finish. I know that the goals of the Spartan Nation are significantly higher, but if that is the new paradigm for the bad year, realistic Spartan fans will take that. Discuss »
Football —  When you look back at how far Mark Dantonio has brought Michigan State since his arrival, it is a remarkable thing. The previous athletic director had made a bad hire in a politically charged environment and crashed the program. Politics had doomed the previous Bobby Williams era before it had even started. Things were bad. Discuss »
