Le'Veon Bell was named a first team All-American today by College Football News, which takes bowl performances into account when making its selections. "The Spartans had almost no passing game to take the heat off, but Bell still came though with 1,793 yards and 12 touchdowns as he carried the team to a nice bowl win over TCU," the publication wrote of Bell. "When he was needed most, he came through with 266 yards against Minnesota just to get MSU bowl eligible."

Michigan State junior linebacker Max Bullough and sophomore punter Mike Sadler have been named to the 2012 Capital One Division I Academic All-America Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Sadler earns Second-Team Academic All-America honors for the second year in a row. It also marks the first time Michigan State has had multiple Academic All-Americans in the same season since 2005 when center Chris Morris and quarterback Drew Stanton both received second-team recognition.

Five members of the 2012 Michigan State women’s gymnastics team have been named Scholar All-Americans, as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W). The gymnasts were recognized for having a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the 2011 academic year.
