The Big Ten Conference has recognized 1,843 student-athletes – 139 from Michigan State – competing in fall sports who have been named Academic All-Big Ten. Michigan State’s Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) has announced the athletic department’s highest academic and community service awards for the 2019-20 academic year.The awards have been unveiled annually in April for the past 22 years at the Academic Excellence Award Gala, but unfortunately due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the gala was canceled this year and the 23rd annual awards were announced online.

The Big Ten Conference announced the Academic All-Big Ten honorees for the 2018 fall sports season on Wednesday, December 5. In all, 116 Michigan State student-athletes were honored over the Spartans’ seven fall sports. MSU led the conference with 11 student-athletes posting a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Michigan State baseball was recognized with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award for the second-straight year. Michigan State had a 3.21 GPA this year, which is the second-highest in program history, only behind last year’s 3.22. Eight members of the 2018 Michigan State gymnastics team have been named Scholar All-Americans by the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA). Ashley Beatty, Gabriella Douglas, Anna Gamelo, Jessica Ling, Lea Mitchell, Madison McHale, Molly Hoerner O’Malley and Victoria Huehn were all recognized for having a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the 2017-18 academic year.
The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has selected a record 3,206 swimmers and divers for its Scholar All-America team, which includes 14 Michigan State athletes. The award recognizes students that have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and competed at their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. The selections are drawn from 181 colleges and universities across all Divisions.
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the 2017-18 NABC Honors Court recently, recognizing those men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season.MSU junior Kyle Ahrens, an advertising management major, and redshirt sophomore Conner George, a communication major, were among the honorees.

Four Michigan State graduates Matt Macksood, Benny McGowan, Tyler O’Connor and Josiah Price have been named to the 2017 National Football Foundation (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society. The NFF Hampshire Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.
