MSU golfer Jack Newman shot an even-par 72 Thursday in his opening round at The Masters Tournament in Augusta, Ga. Newman, the first Spartan golfer to compete in golf’s first major tournament of the year, birdied four of the final five holes of his round. His 72 was best in his threesome comprised of 1992 Masters winner Fred Couples and 2008 U.S. Open runner-up Rocco Mediate, who each shot 73.
