The beginning was predictably sloppy, but by the end of its exhibition opener, Michigan State was much closer to hitting on all cylinders. Branden Dawson, coming off a torn ACL suffered in the regular-season finale last year, led the Spartans with 16 points in an 85-57 victory over Northwood (Fla.).
