It's funny how MSU's championship era is glossed over by some, as if the Spartans blew everyone out by 20 back then, with perfect defense and a lull-free offense. The truth is, those Spartans had a lot of lulls, a lot of mistakes, a lot of ugly performances. But they had great leadership and collective will, and they won a lot of games that looked exactly like today's against Illinois.
