Pepper went to high school in Saline alongside the children of coaches at Michigan, and in February, he committed to becoming a preferred walk-on for the Wolverines. Pepper ultimately changed his mind once Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio had a long snapper spot on the roster open up and offered a scholarship to allow him to attend his first-choice school.
