The Spartans begin the 2008-09 season ranked sixth in the country, and living up to that billing will be relatively tough, particularly early on. Never one to shy away from competition, coach Izzo has dotted this year's docket with a slew of challenging non-conference games, including the Old Spice Classic over Thanksgiving weekend in which MSU will play Maryland and also includes the likes of Gonzaga, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Siena and Wichita State. The Spartans will take on top-ranked North Carolina just a few days later, and will also face the Texas Longhorns in Houston on December 20th.
