Michigan State beat Connecticut, the second-straight No. 1 seed the Spartans have defeated on their path to the national title game, on Friday night to set up the rematch with North Carolina. And the Spartans seek some redemption. The well-heeled Tar Heels (33-4), loaded with NBA-potential players, embarrassed MSU on Dec. 3 at Ford Field, 98-63. But this is a different Michigan State team, one that Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun on Friday night called "special". Calhoun referred to MSU coach Tom Izzo as one of his closest friends and said even more. "He's probably going to win his second national championship on Monday," Calhoun said.
