The Spartans failed to reach 20 points in five of their last seven games in 2006. Michigan State loses quarterback Drew Stanton and three starting receivers, yet it still has a measure of optimism. Four starters return in the offensive line, and new coach Mark Dantonio will put more emphasis on using RBs Javon Ringer and Jehuu Caulcrick. QB Brian Hoyer played well when he got the chance as Stanton's understudy.
