Bryan Lerg scored the winning goal with less than a minute remaining in the first period Friday night as eighth-ranked Michigan State beat Western Michigan, 3-0, at Munn Arena. The Broncos (7-21-3, 3-18-2 Central Collegiate Hockey Association) outshot the Spartans, 11-8, in the second period but were unable to beat goalie Jeff Lerg, who recorded his third shutout of the season and ninth of his career. The Lergs are cousins.
