lansingstatejournal.com —  Derrick Nix, a 6-foot-9, 285-pound center from Detroit Pershing, gave Michigan State coach Tom Izzo the Spartans' second verbal commitment from the Class of 2009 on Monday afternoon. Nix selected MSU over Detroit-Mercy and Central Michigan while drawing strong interest from Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Missouri, Marquette and Iowa. He is ranked the No. 2 player in Michigan's junior class and the No. 10 center nationally by PrepSpotlight.com. Nix is unranked, but listed as a 3-star recruit by Scout.com.
