Men's Basketball theonlycolors.com —  This year has been the MSU basketball season from the bizarro universe. The team flirted with a perfect preconference record (11-1) and leapt out to a 6-0 Big Ten start, but has lost all that momentum down the stretch, going just 5-7 to finish the regular season.

Men's Basketball freep.com —  The Spartans need to cut down on turnovers, a recent issue, and their fouling, a season-long battle. They need to communicate better on defense and be more decisive on offense. Often, in games and practices, it appears they mostly need Appling to be Appling again.

Men's Basketball freep.com —  The game Michigan State likely would most want to play is a longshot, while the two teams the Spartans have seen the most in their Big Ten tournament history are on their side of the bracket again. Certainly, the Spartans would love a third crack at Michigan, which swept them in the regular season en route to the regular-season conference title. “This is our chance to really go show who the best team in the Big Ten is,” MSU sophomore guard Gary Harris said.

Men's Basketball freep.com —  If he plays aggressively on both ends of the floor, the Spartans become a dangerous team. That was evident in Michigan State’s comfortable 67-51 blowout victory over Northwestern in the nightcap of the Big Ten tournament’s second day Friday.

Branden Dawson has what the Spartans' postseason needs
The text was just three words long. And all it said was all Michigan State wanted from Branden Dawson heading into the Big Ten tournament. "We need more." The Spartans got more.

The halftime buzzer sounded, and Tom Izzo had a television interview to do before heading to the locker room with his team doubling up a doubled-over Northwestern squad. But first Michigan State's coach had a message to deliver to one of his own, yelling to get the attention of Branden Dawson, who'd just settled for a jumper — and missed it — on the Spartans' final possession. Asked later what that message was, Dawson smiled and replied: "Attack."
