Under Coach George Makris, Spartan boxers dominated opponents at regional and national competitions, achieving two NCAA national team championships (1951 and 1955) and nine individual NCAA titles. Opening Day is set for Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. as the Spartans take on Big East favorite and 11th-ranked St. John's at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin, Fla. MSU will then face South Florida Saturday at 1 p.m. in Clearwater, Fla., followed by a 10 a.m. matchup on Sunday against No. 15 Louisville in St. Petersburg, Fla.
