Placing first and second in the men's hammer throw was junior Jay Gillespie and sophomore Lonnie Pugh, respectively. Gillespie finished with a 58.14m mark and Pugh with a distance of 56.60m.

The Michigan State track & field team finished second at the Indiana Invitational hosted by the Hoosiers on Sunday, April 17 in Bloomington, Ind. The women maintained second place, improving to 201 points, while the men moved into second on the final day with a total of 161. Freshman Ashley Stacey highlighted the final day of action, as she set the meet record in the women's long jump with a personal-high of 6.24m, a mark which was only 0.05m off of MSU's school record.

At the end of day two, the Spartans finished with a combined 16 top-5 performances, bringing their total to 22 for the weekend.
