Ice Hockey freep.com —  It is hockey’s most elemental truism: In a short series like the playoffs or the Olympics, it’s all about goaltending, just like it’s all about quarterbacking in the National Football League. Which is why U.S. men’s hockey coach Dan Bylsma needs to make the right decision and turn to veteran and former Olympic hero Ryan Miller, and not Jonathan Quick, as his primary goaltender in these Olympics.

Ice Hockey theonlycolors.com —  It doesn't take advanced stats to find a quick reason as to why the Spartan hockey team was unable to earn a victory at home this weekend. They didn't score three goals. After a pair of 2-2 games this weekend, the Spartans are now 0-12-6 when scoring less than three goals in a game. Three, right now, is simply the magic number for this team and when you are saddled with the 53rd ranked offense in the country, that means you aren't going to be winning too many weekend series.

Ice Hockey msuspartans.com —  Michigan State senior right wing and captain Greg Wolfe had an outstanding game. He had two power-play goals, five shots on goal and came close to getting a hat trick. Spartan sophomore goaltender Jake Hildebrand also had an outstanding game. He made 48 saves, several of the spectacular variety, and was sharp and focused for 65 minutes against a team that shoots the puck from everywhere. But elite-level play by Wolfe and Hildebrand still wasn't enough for Michigan State to pull out a victory against Ohio State on Saturday afternoon in front of 6,331 fans at Munn Arena.

Ice Hockey collegehockeynews.com —  After Hildebrand’s shootout woes last year, the Spartans are now 3-1 in games that extend past overtime, including a perfect 3-0 mark in Big Ten play. This for a team that is otherwise near the bottom of the standings. No other NCAA team has more than one shootout win, and much of the Spartans’ success can be attributed to Hildebrand, who stopped 15 of the 20 attempts he’s faced.
