Entering this year, MSU will focus on the day-to-day details as they try to find the inches. “I’m as excited about this season as I was for the first season I came, and in many ways more so,” Anastos said. “I like the chemistry of the team; I really liked the offseason that our guys had. Our team as a hole comes back in better physical shape than any team since I’ve been here.”

Ferrantino isn't expected to lead the team in goals or points, but he is expected to be a solid two-way forward.

Ice Hockey msuspartans.com —  The Big Ten Conference released its 2014-15 preseason coaches' poll along with its Preseason Players to Watch List on Wednesday in conjunction with the league's media day at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Michigan State was picked fifth. Junior goaltender Jake Hildebrand and senior forward Matt Berry were both named to the Players to Watch List, which was also selected by the coaches. In total, 16 student-athletes were named to the list.

In conjunction with the television schedule release, a majority of game times have also been announced.

Ice Hockey wilx.com —  Former Michigan State hockey star David Booth has signed a one year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs after spending last season with Vancouver. The 29-year old winger had nine goals and 10 assists in 66 games with the Canucks. He has 218 career points in 443 games with Vancouver and Florida. The Detroit native was selected 53rd overall by Florida in the 2004 draft.

Mackenzie MacEachern (St. Louis Blues), Rhett Holland (Arizona Coyotes) and Josh Jacobs (New Jersey Devils) trained with their respective NHL rights holders, while Thomas Ebbing was asked to the New York Islanders camp and Jake Hildebrand received an invitation to the Pittsburgh Penguins camp.

Ice Hockey greenbaypressgazette.com —  Mason Appleton wasn't expecting to be pulled aside at last month's Tri-City Storm summer tryout camp. The former Green Bay Notre Dame standout went to the event in Kearney, Neb., just hoping to make a good impression on the USHL franchise that chose him with the third overall pick in May's Phase II Draft. Appleton accomplished that in addition to catching the eye of Michigan State University assistant coach Tom Newton, who invited him to campus for a visit. The 6-foot-2, 187-pound center took the trip to East Lansing, Mich., on Monday and received a scholarship offer. Appleton didn't wait long to pull the trigger on accepting it.
