Brent Darnell was out of the lineup due to injury, causing a rare shaking up of the lines for coach Tom Anastos. Ryan Keller slid up to the 1st line without his usual battery mate Darnell, while Villiam Haag moved down to the third line. Thomas Ebbing swapped places with Matt DeBlouw, who has really been coming on lately, which allowed for a rare occurence of Mackenzie MacEachern and Ebbing being split up. That 2nd line was great tonight and made Anastos look like he was pulling all the right strings.

MSU fell down 3-0 under the lights at Soldier Field and could not muster a comeback against its in-state rivals. Junior goaltender Jake Hildebrand finished with 33 saves and junior forward Matt DeBlouw scored the Spartans lone goal in the game.

The Coyote Logistics Hockey City Classic had potential, when it was announced last year. After a 2-1 weekend over Michigan last weekend the Spartans' hockey team had a potential 2 weekend series sweep to accomplish Saturday night. Unfortunately botht the Hockey City Classic and the Spartans failed to maximize thier potential. On a night marred by poor ice conditions, a sparae crowd and multiple delays the Michigan Wolverines defeated the Spartans 4-1.
