Hockey drops Hockey City Classic to U-M 4-1 in Chicago State News
MSU hockey (10-12-2, 4-4-2-2 Big Ten) had its three-game winning streak snapped Saturday night losing 4-1 to U-M (16-8, 8-2 Big Ten) in the Hockey City Classic. MSU fell down 3-0 under the lights at Soldier Field and could not muster a comeback against its in-state rivals. Junior goaltender Jake Hildebrand finished with 33 saves and junior forward Matt DeBlouw scored the Spartans lone goal in the game.

Hockey City Dud: Michigan 4-MSU 1 The Only Colors
The Coyote Logistics Hockey City Classic had potential, when it was announced last year. After a 2-1 weekend over Michigan last weekend the Spartans' hockey team had a potential 2 weekend series sweep to accomplish Saturday night. Unfortunately botht the Hockey City Classic and the Spartans failed to maximize thier potential. On a night marred by poor ice conditions, a sparae crowd and multiple delays the Michigan Wolverines defeated the Spartans 4-1.

Neil's Notebook: Wolverines Stop Spartans in Hockey City Classic
The Spartans' defensive coverage and overall puck management were not up to standards and the combination opened the door for the Wolverines to gain a little revenge. Michigan broke open a close game with two goals in the second period - both due to defensive breakdowns - and went on to a 4-1 victory in the Coyote Hockey City Classic front of announced crowd of 22,751.

Ice Hockey —  The Spartans and Wolverines will meet up in Chicago at Soldier Field for their 4th outdoor game in series history, with the series currently standing at 1-1-1. After playing games in Spartan Stadium, The Big House and Comerica Park the arch-enemies will now take the rivalry to Illinois, only the second time in history the two have played outside the state of Michigan. The game is a part of the Coyote Hockey City Classic, a double-header which features former CCHA compatriots Western Michigan and Miami.

Ice Hockey —  Krug was given the role of captain of the team during his sophomore year. Shortly after his junior year season, he left to start his career in the NHL. Torey went in as a free agent and played with the Providence Bruins in the AHL. About a year after, in 2012, he moved on to the Boston Bruins at the young age of 21.

Ice Hockey —  Josh Jacobs has never played in an outdoor hockey game. That will change this weekend in a 61,500-seat stadium with the skyline of Chicago lit over the top of the stadium up to the north and west. The Michigan State freshman will make his outdoor debut in a pretty special setting: Soldier Field in downtown Chicago. "I think it'll be a great atmosphere. This is pretty exciting,'' said Jacobs, a 6-foot-1, 191-pound defenseman from Shelby Township, just east of Rochester.
