It was during a winter baseball camp, and the Michigan State coach was so impressed, he ran over to see exactly who it was and how hard he threw. It was Garner, and the pitch was clocked at 91 miles per hour. It was his first pitch, and when Boss asked if his arm was in shape enough to throw that hard, Garner informed him he hadn't picked up a ball since July — nearly six months earlier.

The Michigan State baseball team will take a break from Big Ten play to face Central Michigan Tuesday in the "Clash at Comerica" in Detroit at 7 p.m. The Spartans defeated the Chippewas at Comerica Park last season, 3-1, in the first-ever collegiate game played at the home of the Detroit Tigers.
