Spartans let 3-0 first period lead slip away as they fall to Minnesota 5-3 State News
MSU hockey (13-14-2, 7-6-2-2 Big Ten) let a golden opportunity slip away Thursday night against No. 14 Minnesota (18-10-3, 9-3-3-0 Big Ten). The Spartans built a 3-0 lead in the first period just to watch Minnesota score five unanswered goals to win 5-3 and remain at the top of the Big Ten standings. Had MSU won, it would have been sitting all alone in first place in the conference.

Double Shot of Frustration The Only Colors

Over midway through the kill, Joe Cox got down on his right knee to block a shot. He fell to the ground, pushing the puck away with his stick. He tried to get up, but couldn’t stand on his right leg. He finally rose, limping around the ice as Penn State possessed the puck. With 30 seconds left on the kill, Cox dropped his right knee to the ground again to block another shot. He fell facedown to the ice before he muscled his way to the bench.
