In the mid-1980s, Mark Hollis was nowhere near where he is now. Sure, he was at Michigan State, but the university's current athletic director was far from reaching the status he has today. Back then, Hollis was a student manager for Jud Heathcote's basketball team, and his most important task each day was sweeping the floor.

Some sick little kids got some very special visitors Wednesday but they weren't wearing red and white, they were wearing green and white. About a dozen Spartan athletes from various sports played Santa for the kids at Sparrow Hospital. They handed out a bunch of MSU gear plus toys and gifts donated by Meijer.

The Spartans lead the Nittany Lions in the 18th annual MSU-PSU Blood Challenge, a race to collect blood for the American Red Cross. MSU has only 889 pints to go, compared to Penn State's 1,145 left to collect.
