Emily MacLeod and Joe Banyai finished second in the 1-mile run and 800-meter unseeded run, respectively. Overall, the team had 19 top-10 finishes for the day.

Jim Bibbs, the longest tenured track and field coach in program history from 1968-95, was the first African-American head coach at Michigan State. During Bibbs' career, his student-athletes won 52 Big Ten titles, earned All-America honors 26 times, claimed three NCAA titles and set two world records.

Dr. Nell Jackson was a difference maker in every stop of her life. Along the road of her esteemed career, she was instrumental in implementing the women's athletics program at Michigan State University. She was the first-ever Assistant Director of Athletics for Women at MSU, serving from 1973-81, and also served as the women's track and field head coach for six seasons.
