The Michigan State men’s golf team wrapped up the Bearcat Invitational on Tuesday at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio, by taking 10th place. The Spartans shot a 5-over-par 857, which included a 5-over-par 289 in Tuesday’s final round at the 7,111-yard course.

The Spartans shot an even-par 568 after a 2-over-par 286 in round one and a 2-under-par 282 in the second round in the play six, count four format.
The Michigan State women’s golf team captured the 34th annual Mary Fossum Invitational on Sunday at Forest Akers West with a tournament record 5-under-par 859 (285-278-296). Senior Sarah Burnham completed the tournament sweep for the Spartans as she claimed medalist honors with a 6-under-par 210.

Michigan State sophomore Kaleb Johnson has been named the Big Ten Men’s Golfer of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday (Sept. 20). Johnson tied for first place at the weather-shortened Inverness Intercollegiate this week with an 8-under-par 134. With the help of nine birdies, he shot a 6-under-par 65 in the opening round, tying for the second-lowest round in program and tournament history. Johnson shot a 2-under-par 69 in the second round to earn his first collegiate tournament win.

The Spartans finished 17-under-par 847 (279-278-290), a program 54-hole tournament record. USC, which ended last year ranked 10th nationally, won the event with a 26-under-par 838 (282-276-280).
Two near-record rounds has the Michigan State women’s golf team in first place after 36 holes at the Minnesota Invitational. The Spartans are 19-under-par 557 after a 9-under-par 279 in round one and then a 10-under-par 278 in round two at Prestwick Country Club in Woodbury, Minnesota. The Spartans lead USC (18-under-par 558) by one stroke and are ahead of third-place Louisville (12-under-par 564) by six strokes.
The Michigan State men’s golf team got the 2017-18 season off to a solid start on Sunday at the Gopher Invitational in Independence, Minnesota at Windsong Farm Golf Club. The Spartans currently sit in fourth place in a 16-team field that features eight schools that played in last year’s NCAA Championships – including the national champions.
The Michigan State women’s golf team opened the season by topping Minnesota in a match play dual on Saturday at Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata, Minnesota. The Spartans picked up victories in three individual matches and halved three matches. Team points were awarded based on one point for a victory and a half point for a halved match, giving MSU a 4.5-1.5 win.
The first tournament of the fall season is on the horizon for the Michigan State men’s golf team as the Spartans will travel to Minnesota for the Gopher Invitational, Sept. 10-11, in Independence, Minnesota. The two-day tournament will get underway Sunday morning at the Windsong Farm Golf Club.
The 2017 Big Ten Champion Michigan State women’s golf team will begin the new season with a pair of events in Minnesota. The Spartans will meet the Minnesota Golden Gophers in match play on Saturday, Sept. 9, and then play in the Minnesota Invitational, Sept. 11-12.
Kaleb Johnson, Michael Sharp and Andrew Walker have all been named to the Big Ten Men’s Golfers to Watch List, it was announced by the conference on Wednesday (Aug. 30).
The Big Ten announced its Golfers to Watch List on Wednesday (Aug. 30) and it included a trio of returning Spartans in seniors Sarah Burnham and Katie Sharp and sophomore Allyson Geer.
Walker, a 2016 Lakeview High graduate and a current golfer at Michigan State University, shot a 74 in his final round to win the tournament by one stroke, edging out former Lakeview golf standout Jared Multer, who was runner-up. Multer just finished up his collegiate career at Eastern Michigan University. Kory Roberts, another Lakeview grad in the final playing group, shot a 76 and finished fourth. Casey Bess had the best round of Day 2 with a 73 and climbed to take third overall.
