One of the top wide receiver recruits in the country has committed to Michigan State. Four-star WR Joseph Scates announced on Tuesday that he’s going to be a Spartan. “I would like to thank all the coaches & schools that have been recruiting me and I’d like to thank the MSU coaching staff for all the time & love they’ve invested in me,” Scates wrote. “After a long talk with my family and coaches I have decided to further my academic & athletic career and commit to Michigan State University.”

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo reiterated on Tuesday what he said last week saying 6-foot-9 graduate transfer Ben Carter won’t return from a knee injury suffered just weeks before the season began. Izzo also said it appears more likely that of 6-9 senior Gavin Schilling will be in the same boat.“In my mind, it’s 99 percent definitive,” Izzo said. “I think in his mind it is, too. So, I guess we could almost say that his chances of coming back are slim this year.”

When he committed to Michigan State last summer, Jacub Panasiuk joked that the Spartans had a leg up in his recruitment all along. It had a key recruiter living one bedroom down from him. Jacub’s older brother, Mike, committed to the Spartans’ 2016 recruiting class. Jacub eventually listened to the pitch from his older brother decided to join him as a member of Michigan State’s 2017 class.
