Michigan State will travel to Louisville in this year’s installment of the annual series, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein on Thursday.

With summer creeping in, Michigan State’s basketball roster is set with the news Nick Ward is returning for his junior season. It was an important piece to the off-season for the Spartans, who will adjust to the departures of Jaren Jackson Jr. and Miles Bridges.

Fourteen Michigan State wrestlers will be competing at the U23 World Team Trials this weekend, Friday-Sunday, June 1-3, in Akron, Ohio. While Greco action starts on Friday, June 1, all 14 of the Spartans will be in action in the freestyle competition, which gets underway on Saturday, June 2.
Michigan State baseball head coach Jake Boss Jr. announced the winners of the 2018 team awards on Thursday, May 31. All of the awards were voted on by the players with the exception of the Offensive Player of the Year award, which is based on various statistical data over the course of the season.
Michigan State will kick off the 2018 season on Friday, Aug. 31 against Utah State at 7 p.m. in Spartan Stadium. The game will be televised on BTN. For Week 2, the Spartans will travel to Arizona State on Sept. 8 to face ASU at 10:45 p.m. ET/7:45 p.m. PT in Sun Devil Stadium on ESPN. This marks just the third meeting between the two schools in series history, and the first trip for MSU to Tempe since 1986.
Michigan State currently does not have a running back commit yet in their 2019 class, but the Spartans continue to work on several key targets at that position. One of those is Suwanee (Ga.) North Gwinnett’s Tyler Goodson, who confirmed to Spartan Tailgate’s Sean Scherer that he plans to visit Michigan State this summer. The expectation is for that to be an official visit.

FanRagSports.com’s Jon Rothstein has updated his Way-too-early CBB Top 25 now that players who hadn’t hired an agent have made their NBA Draft decisions. Rothstein has placed Michigan State No. 9 in the nation which is also the highest spot for any Big Ten team. The other Big Ten schools in the Top 25 are Michigan (22) and Nebraska (25). Rothstein also had a Five on the Cusp list too with Indiana on it.

Heading into last season, Michigan State was coming off a 3-9 finish, unranked and widely dismissed as a contender in the Big Ten. The Spartans responded with a 10-3 record in 2017 to surpass the expectations of many and return 19 starters heading into this season. That has Mark Dantonio’s team back in the national conversation.

T.J. Duckett closed his career at Michigan State as one of the greatest running backs in program history. Nearly two decades later, he will receive a new honor. Todd “T.J.” Duckett will be one of eight inductees in the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2018, which was announced Wednesday night. The ceremony will take place on Sept. 28 at the MotorCity Casino in Detroit.

Jim Harbaugh dropped to 1-2 against Mark Dantonio with a 14-10 loss to the Spartans in Ann Arbor. Michigan returns 19 starters, though, and brings in highly touted QB Shea Patterson, who started last year at Mississippi — although he must beat out Brandon Peters and Dylan McCaffrey for the starting job.

The Big Ten Conference announced the Academic All-Big Ten honorees for the 2018 spring sports season on Wednesday, May 30. In all, 148 Michigan State student-athletes were honored over the Spartans’ nine spring sports. In addition, MSU led the conference with eight student-athletes posting a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA on the spring Academic All-Big Ten Team.

Ward may not have been quite ready for the NBA jump this year. But he’s still one of the better low-post scorers in college basketball, and should take another step forward as a junior, particularly with the Spartans losing their top scorer in Miles Bridges.

The 2018 three-star cornerback from Lassiter High School in Marietta, Ga., was wrapping up an unofficial visit with his father in late February 2017 and driving around campus with Mark Dantonio. The Michigan State coach was talking about how long the recruiting process is when Jackson simplified it. “I just told him ‘I’m all set to go. I’m ready to commit,'” Jackson recalled.
