Michigan State’s 2016 recruiting class arrived on campus two summers ago not only as the highest-rated class in school history but as a salve in a still-open wound. The Spartans were three months removed from a shocking first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Middle Tennessee State. A team led by a national player of the year in Denzel Valentine, plus fellow seniors Bryn Forbes and Matt Costello, had seen its national title dreams end in the cruelest way possible.
