Brian Lewerke will be Michigan State’s starting quarterback to begin the 2017 season. At this point, only an injury or some other unforeseen circumstance could change that. In hindsight, many Michigan State fans wish Lewerke would have been the Spartans’ QB to start last season. As it was, he made his first appearance as a redshirt freshmen in the third game of the season during the second half of a blowout loss to Wisconsin on Sept. 24. By Oct. 15, Lewerke was inserted as the starting quarterback against Northwestern and started again the next week against Maryland.
